Britney Slips Curse Into “If You Seek Amy,” Surprises All With Spelling Skills

Britney Spears

Say “If you seek Amy” ten times fast.

Now do you feel dirty?

Perhaps you should, says the Parents Television Council. This prudish organization regularly goes to war over profanity and our favorite pop tart Britney Spears is the target of their newest battle.

The organization is urging radio stations not to play BritBrit’s newest single during the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. because that’s when young, innocent ears are listening. According to PTC, “If You Seek Amy” violates the broadcast indecency law because, get this, if you say the title quickly it kinda sorta sounds a little like maybe you’re spelling out the F-word.

Take a listen to the song in question:

I tried it a few times and I’m still not convinced, but apparently it’s true and that devious Ms. Spears did it on purpose! Lynch her! “There is no misinterpreting the lyrics to this song, and it’s certainly not about a girl named Amy,” PTC president Tim Winters says in an MSNBC article.

Here are the lyrics in question:

Love me hate me
But can’t you see what I see
All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to If You Seek Amy

In a way I can see where Timmy is coming from – the line really makes no sense. But a lot of Britney’s lyrics don’t make sense and there aren’t censors running amok over them. Plus, that’s giving Britney a lot of credit thinking she could cleverly and slyly stick a little profanity in there as an F you to all her critics.

What bothers me more than anything, though, is who cares if it does spell out the “F-word?” Most kids won’t pick up on it and even if they do, parents spell curse words in front of their kids all the time. The PTC should just be glad that kids are terrible spellers.

On a side note, if the PTC sounds familiar, it’s probably because they inadvertently gave Gossip Girl execs the perfect promo:
