Boob Tube: CBS Gets Into the Business of Arranging Marriages

New reality shows really shouldn’t surprise me anymore. And yet, I’m still taken aback by CBS’ newest concept: “Arranged Marriage.”
The show will feature four adults 25-45 years old who are desperate eager to get married. That’s when their friends and family step in to select a spouse for them. Do they meet, date and decide based on this set-up? No. They just get thrown into marriage. Viewers then get the chance to follow how the marriage goes.
According to The Live Feed, the show is brought to us by the people behind Project Runway and Top Chef. Somehow I don’t see the connection.
Those shows aside, it’s inevitable that “Arranged Marriage” will be compared to Fox’s 2003 series “Married By America,” which just went splendidly. The show brought couples together based on viewer’s voting and it didn’t take long for conservative outrage to ensue.

However, on that show no one actually ended up married. On “Arranged Marriage” there will, in fact, be a marriage. Sacred institution, eh?
Cue the sequel “Bitter Divorce.”
