5 Female Celebrity “Novels” That Are Actually Thinly Disguised Autobiographies

Celebrities are never satisfied with their success. If they’re an actor, they want to sing. If they’re a model, they want to act. And, for some reason, they all want to write.
Hollywood autobiographies are everywhere, but many eager stars want to express a little more creativity and so we get celebrities writing novels. Or perhaps I should write celebrities “writing” “novels.” Because first of all, I’d say more often then not there’s a ghost writer involved. And secondly, aren’t these novels really just thinly veiled autobiographies with a glamorous polish added?
The Frisky recently compiled a list of celebrity novels that never should have been written. While I can’t really comment on the quality (but I can definitely venture a guess), I can say these novels sure do sound familiar…
What sparked the article in the first place is the news that Lauren Conrad will soon be releasing her first chick lit novel. While L.C. has had to close shop on her clothing line, you shouldn’t feel too sorry for her. When one door closes, a ridiculous book deal opens.
I realize people “write what they know,” but where’s the creativity? Take a look at L.C. and other celebrities who spruced up their life stories and called it fiction:
Lauren Conrad – L.A. Candy

While it’s not out yet, L.A. Candy will be the first in a three-book series. No surprise here, but the books are supposed to be “loosely based” on L.C.’s own transition from regular gal to Hollywood fame whore face.
Pamela Anderson – Star: A Novel

From the Amazon Review: “Anyone remotely familiar with Anderson’s life will recognize the playfully disguised true story behind Star Wood Leigh’s tale–how a tight t-shirt and a football game led to her appearance in Mann Magazine, an accidental audition landed her a spot on the home improvement send-up Hammer Time, and a show called Lifeguards, Inc confirmed her arrival on the Hollywood scene.” Just look at the creativity!
Nicole Richie – The Truth About Diamonds: A Novel

The novel follows Chloe Parker a “rock royalty princess” who was adopted by a music superstar and his wife. There’s also wild parties, a stint in rehab and a best friend’s betrayal in case you weren’t sure who they were really talking about.
Paulina Porizkova – A Model Summer

Czech-born model Paulina Prizkova wrote this novel about Jirina a rising Czech model.
Katie Price – Angel

Another story from a model abut a model and all the glamour of modeling.
All that being said, the latest well-known name to come out with a novel is Gloria Vanderbilt, socialite , author and mother to Anderson Cooper. Her book? Obsession: An Erotic Tale. Is this another “loosely based on true life” story?
