7 Ways The Internet Was Made “Cute”
The internet is many things: A source of useful (and not-so-useful) information, a way to connect and… a medium for all things cute. Yes, logging on means access to a whole World Wide Web of sugar, spice and everything nice.
And it’s not just the heart-melting animal memes that make the internet a bastion of cuteness, though those certainly help. It’s all the tools and tricks that have been cute-ified for our web surfing pleasure. Even the geekiest of the geeks will feel their pocket protectors skip a beat and the snark slip away at all the ways in which our internet has become so much more adorable.
When did this happen? How did this happen? Why did this happen? I don’t know but it happened:
You’ve probably used plenty of URL shortening sites, but have any of them been this special? Enter a long, ugly URL and next thing you know “A so cute URL has been fluffered.” You’ll have a slightly shorter, but much cuter link which will be something along the lines of socuteurl.com/doggywiddly.
Hello Kitty Anti Virus + Firewall
As I’ve mentioned before, every list must contain a little Hello Kitty. And this is probably the cutest anti virus software I’ve ever seen.
Cute Overload/Cute Things Falling Asleep
I had to include two of the cutest cult blogs. Both are exactly what their names imply and that is what makes them so damn adorable.
Even when the Chinese are censoring the internet, they manage to put a cute face on it. These charming cartoon characters (used to?) show up on certain web pages to warn you that you’re every move is being watched. How precious!
The boring black arrow cursor is so passe. Cute it up with a heart, flower or puppy to navigate your way around the internet.
Web hosting is serious business and yet so many web hosting companies have cutesy names. FatCow and BlueFur come to mind. Maybe that’s because the thoughtof owning a website is so daunting, companies feel you need a cute creature to put you at ease.
This ones not actually cute per se, but with cute in the name how could I leave out all of these software clients?
