Katie Gallagher’s new collection is supposed to be futuristic. To the fashion-forward, her skin-colored corsets are exoskeleton rib cages that provoke a meaningful parody of nakedness. To me, it seems a little familiar…

Oh yes, it appears to be Spanx couture.

Nothing against Spanx of course. I’ve spoken before of the amazing suctioning and slimming power of the undergarments. But until that rumored line of Spanx apparel comes to fruition (soon, please!), it’s just that: undergarments. The “clothes” in this collection seem vaguely reminiscent of those practical body shapers.

Hosiery does it’s job well, but that doesn’t make me want to show it off. It should stay safely under clothes, slimming in secret.

But then again, I think if my sweats are black that makes them fancy pants.
