American Idol Season Ends, Domain Name Squatting Begins

Seeing as I didn’t watch American Idol this season, you might understand how I thought Adam Lambert was the only contestant on the show. The media, web and the legions of unbelievably obsessive fans somehow led me to this conclusion. Alas, last night’s finale proved that notion very wrong when Kris Allen was crowned our next American Idol.
It was an epic night: The episode was American Idol’s lowest rated finale yet! But with about 100 million votes it was the most voted in Idol history! There were girls in bikinis! Adam Lambert didn’t win!
Now that the craziness and the Lambert-loss-fueled riots have subsided, it’s time to turn our attention to a more serious matter: Domain names.
You see, American Idol doesn’t just make amateur singers famous… it makes those who purchased websites based on their names rich. KrisNAllen.com is being sold on eBay for $9,999. But don’t think winners and, more importantly, the websites based on winners, get all the glory. As of last night, AdamALambert.com was going for $4,999 and AdamIdolambert.com can be bought for $29,700.

I wonder if that will all change now that Adam isn’t the Idol after all. But if my impression of Lambert fans is correct, it won’t.
