Ten Fashion Trends I’d Like to See Left in 2009

We are starting a new year which means a ton more trends will come and go. The good and the bad of course. With their ridiculous looks, celebrities such as Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton, Lauren Conrad, Kristin Cavallari, Katie Holmes, and Victoria Beckham all seem to be good at setting trends. Let’s hope 2010 is full of some better trends than these in 2009.
1. Hippie Headband

The Hippie Chic headband needs to go and has needed to go since day one. I don’t know how or why people, especially celebrities, think this is okay to wear in public. The purpose of a headband is to hold your hair out of your face and to lie BEHIND the hairline, not ON your forehead! Who said this was okay? When I see girls wearing this trend it drives me crazy, you don’t look cool sweetheart! You just look stupid!
2. Menswear

Another trend that I’d love to see left behind is women wearing menswear. I don’t get it at all. Sure a vest is cute, but not a men’s vest! I am all about embracing my femininity. Being a female is a gift and we are beautiful beings. Why cover up our beautiful bodies in menswear?? It looks sloppy and just plain dumb.
3. Boyfriend Jeans

Speaking of menswear on women, what is with the Boyfriend Jean trend? They are not by any means flattering, hence the name boyfriend jean. They belong in your boyfriend’s closet. Celebrities like Katie Holmes, Amanda Peet, Reese Witherspoon and even Victoria Beckham love this trend. This look bothers me, it is sloppy and just NOT cute!
4. Gloves

Ah…one of my favorites. Gloves. Gloves are okay when they are for the winter and cover your fingers. They are also okay for performers. They are NOT okay to wear out in public. You don’t look like a rock star, you look like a fool. Goodbye glove trend, please don’t follow us into the new year.
5. Distracting Tights

Tights with way too much going on. From fishnets to lace to polka dots…really? This doesn’t enhance your outfit, it ruins it! A little black dress with bare legs and sexy heels is a lot sexier than a little black dress and black lace tights to completely take away from your outfit and put all the attention on the unnecessary article of clothing on your legs. Just say no!
6. Legwarmers

Leg warmers. I think this trend speaks for itself. How on earth is this cute? How did it even become a trend? Either wear pants or wear boots. The leg warmers are not a fashion statement, they are a fashion nightmare!
7. Whatever Lady Gaga Wears

Lady Gaga is a trend of her own. I just don’t get her style. I guess she likes the shock factor of it. Ninety percent of the time she is wearing no pants, now how is that fashionable? I think Lady Gaga’s style needs to stay behind in 2009, her music can come into the new year but wow stop TRYING to look stupid!
8. Shoulder Pads

Who said shoulder pads were back in? Who was stupid enough to follow this trend? It doesn’t look cute, it looks like a space outfit and needs to stay in the 80′s!
9. Jumpsuits

Another trend…jumpsuits! Since Kate Hudson wears them, I’m sure lots of girls copied her this year. I used to LOVE these when I was a little girl. I wouldn’t be caught dead in one of these today. How do you go to the bathroom when you are out in this concoction of an outfit? The only acceptable jumpsuits are the prison jumpsuits. Thank god the J-Lo jumpsuits have gone way out years ago. Let’s leave this trend behind!
10. High-Waisted Pants, Shorts, and Skirts

I don’t know how this look came back in style. It is not cute, and makes it look like you are wearing “mom jeans”. Sure, if you are built like a 12 year old boy it may look OKAY but if you actually have curves to you like most of us women do, you will look stupid and fat! Please keep this trend in 2009!
