When’s The Next Flight to Pandora?

Avatar Navi James Cameron

With all of the hype about Avatar, I was expecting something great, this film exceeded my expectations.  I just saw the movie and absolutely loved it.  Unfortunately, by the time I got there with my 3-D tickets, there were no seats left and after being “prepared” for the movie and all I was not waiting 3 hours to see it in 3-D.  So I ended up waiting for about 30 minutes to see it in 2-D.  It was still amazing but after speaking to my brother this morning it is confirmed that I will be seeing it again this week in IMAX 3-D to get the full effect.

It didn’t feel like three hours because  I was so intrigued by everything about it!  This is a MUST SEE movie!  If you are like me, you wonder if there are other planets out there with different forms of life, this takes you into that fantasy world you have always thought about.  The special effects and graphics in this move were unbelievable.  It is safe to say that this film by James Cameron has changed the movie industry forever.

Avatar takes us to a wondrous world beyond imagination, where a wary hero plunges into an epic adventure.  Ultimately Jake Sully, a former Marine confined to a wheelchair, ends up fighting to save the alien world he has learned to call home.  The Oscar-winning director of “Titanic,” James Cameron, first imagined this film 15 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist.  His time and patience with this film, along with the 300 million dollars spent making it, puts Avatar in a category of its own.

After 4 years of production, Avatar, a brand new film of its kind, is finally released.  This is an action packed film with a new generation of special effects that will make you not believe your eyes.  The emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story make the revolutionary technology invented to make the film vanish.

I felt like I was on an acid trip of some sort while watching this movie because it looks and feels completely unlike any movie ever.  Maybe it was the fact that an entirely computer generated world actually felt REAL for the first time ever.  What I found so incredibly interesting was the very real connection that the natives of Pandora had to their fellow beings.

Jake Sully takes us into this world through his eyes.  Jake is still a warrior at heart despite his broken body.  There is a human outpost on Pandora where he’s recruited to travel light years to.  There is a rare mineral on Pandora that is the key to solving the Earth’s energy crisis.

Pandora’s atmosphere is toxic to humans, they created the Avatar Program, in which human “drivers” have their consciousness linked to an avatar, a remotely-controlled biological body that can survive in the lethal air.  These avatars are genetically engineered hybrids of human DNA mixed with DNA from the natives of Pandora… the Na’vi.

Once Jake is reborn in his avatar form, he can walk again.  He’s given a mission to infiltrate the Na’vi, who have become a major obstacle to mining the precious mineral.  Things change completely when a beautiful Na’vi female, Neytiri, saves Jake’s life when he is almost killed by some trippy creatures on the planet.

Neytiri takes Jake under her wing and teaches him to become a Na’vi.  He has to go through many tests and adventures in order to become one of them.  The things that she shows him are out of this world.  I wish I could go to Pandora and experience the things that he does.  As Jake and his teacher Neytiri’s relationship grows, he learns to respect the Na’vi way and actually takes his place among them.  As one of them.

This movie definitely has a message.  The title “Avatar” means life.  It is everything surrounding us that represents life itself and there’s a deep connection between every living thing.  You destroy one thing and you cause despair to another.  Life is an eternal cycle that cannot be broken. We have to save our planet and care more for it.

Avatar Movie

The Na’vi connect to everything around them.  Whether it be to a tree or to an animal that will fly them around, and act as a horse would to a cowboy.  They connect the end of their long hair to an extension whatever it may be, which connects their thoughts with the other creatures.  It is amazing.

On Earth, Jake Sully is can’t do much of anything physically, so being on Pandora and being able to really live changes his life.  He and Neytiri fall in love (typical) and he needs to choose between the human race or being a native to Pandora.

The ending to this movie was incredibly gratifying.  I am not going to reveal the ending and ruin it for those of you who haven’t seen it.  I am praying there will be an Avatar 2.  If you haven’t seen it yet, go see it.  Do it the right way and see it 3-D!

The movie was unreal. I am going back a second time to see it in 3-D hopefully I-Max too. Definitely go see it. It’s so trippy, it seems so real and great story line.

    Hi Guys…
The narrative would be ho-hum without the spectacle. But what spectacle! Avatar is dizzying, enveloping, vertiginous … I ran out of adjectives an hour into its 161 minutes.

Wow, you are the first person I heard from that didn’t like the film! Did you see it in 3-D? I saw it in 2-D and didn’t find it to cause me dizzy or anything whatsoever. I did hear news reports before I saw Avatar that some people were getting nauseas in the film. I guess maybe that was the 3-D version. I’m not sure. All I know is that I absolutely loved the movie and am going to see it again this week to make sure I didn’t miss anything. It didn’t make you think? As far as how the natives to Pandora were connected to everything around them. The fact that there was life form on another planet light years away? I don’t know. I loved it, but thank you for your response.

My son and I just returned from the movie and yes, the motion capture isn’t as creepy as Polar Express and A Christmas Carol but it would have been more believable if the characters weren’t so weak and developed without much imagination. And I know the lack of story has been beaten to death but wow… even my kids could predict ever moment in the story… and they haven’t even seen Dances with Wolves. And every step they took made things glow???… it looked like a Chucky Cheese or Disney World. But, like I said, at least the aliens didn’t look dead like the previously mentioned motion capture movies.

I finally saw the movie in IMAX 3D… it blew me away. I loved how each step they took made things glow. I thought that was unbelievable. I loved how much they showed how important the earth is to us and how everything around us is super important. Also that everything is connected to each other, which is something I totally believe. I didn’t think that the characters were weak at all. I don’t think the movie was about that anyway. It was more the animation and for you to feel like you were in a fantasy world. I loved it.

I am glad to hear that some one feels just as strongly about the messages in this film as I do. I loved it so much, I have it on DVD and have watched it at least 10 times. It will never get old. James Cameron is definitely THE MAN!
