What a Single Jew Does X-Mas Eve

For the past few years on Christmas Eve I have gone to this gathering called the “Matzoball“.  It sounds really funny and absolutely ridiculous, which it actually is.  You get all dressed up to go mingle with other single Jews and you get there to just be disappointed.

This year I went with my sister and a group of friends, a mixture of guys and girls.  The group I went with was great, but most of the guys at the Matzoball…well, I could either carry on my hip or fit in my pocket.  The crowd that was there are the ones that give Jews a bad rep.

The cover charge was either $25 or $30, I don’t remember because I didn’t pay to get in.  We have a friend who was a bartending at one of the clubs hosting the event that told the guy at the door in the back entrance to let us in.  Thank God I did not pay because I would’ve been pretty pissed off.  We get there to one of the clubs hosting it, and it’s pretty much empty.  There were guys walking around that I was either towering over or guys with glasses about an inch thick.

I sound like such a bitch but I wasn’t the only one saying it.  It wasn’t just the guys that were such a let down, the girls were too.  They had the typical Jewish frizzy hair.  I wanted to give ALL of them my business card to my salon but I felt that it would be too forward and rude.  I really felt bad for some of them and I really hope that they met someone at this singles event.

I felt like I was at a Bat Mitzvah for adults… and I felt like I was getting checked out by every guy as I walked by.  I could feel their eyes looking me up and down… probably men in their 50′s and 60′s… NOT cool!  It was not a good feeling, especially when none of them were attractive.  Ugh!  What a disappointment.  I ended up leaving and getting sushi instead.  That’s how bad it was.

There was a ton of hype about this year’s Matzoball which got me excited.  It was even hosted at two of the clubs that I go to on a regular basis.

Presented by the Society of Young Jewish Professionals (“SYJP”), JDate and SLEEK Medspa, the 23rd annual Matzo Ball® promises a night of high-energy networking and matchmaking for singles ages 21-49 years of age. Matzo Ball® offers men and women the opportunity to meet in an environment conducive to developing networking opportunities, long lasting friendships and romantic relationship.

SYJP, founded in 1987, is the brainchild of one man’s desire to bring Jewish people together and find a nice Jewish girl along the way! SYJP has opened a  new dimension in meeting singles and uniting the Jewish community – to date we have sparked more than 1,000 marriages and thousands of friendships. Originating from one holiday party, the Matzo Ball®, SYJP has grown into a national membership organization that hosts monthly events for Jewish professionals.

The Matzoball is all over! It was in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Boca Raton/Delray Beach(where I went), Ft. Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami Beach, Montreal, New York City, and Washington D.C. Maybe the other cities had better crowds. I’d love to hear if anyone went in any other cities what they thought? Did you have the same terrble experience as I did? Or did you find someone? Please share your success stories or nightmare stories!

I went this year too. To be honest, I was embarrassed. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and that these were “my” people…

Ugh, I know! So embarrassed right? It’s like my mom wants me to meet a nice Jewish boy, but when I go to a thing like that… that’s the last thing I want!
