What’s the Deal with Dogs in Strollers?

I don’t get the whole dog in strollers thing. What is the point of people pushing their dogs around? I mean, come on, really? This is absolutely ridiculous. I am sure that this post will offend some of you but I really don’t care. This is one of those things that just pisses me off to the max!
I’ll be at the mall walking behind someone who is walking so slowly, and I don’t mind because I see them pushing a stroller. I figure it’s a baby in there. When I finally get a chance to walk around them and I see it’s a dog, it just boggles my mind. I really don’t get it. Put the dog on a damn leash!

Strollers were invented for babies, who clearly can not walk on their own. Leashes were invented for animals such as DOGS and cats who CAN walk on their own. This infuriates me that this has gotten so big that there are tons of websites selling DOG strollers!! Are you kidding me? Really? If you need to put the damn dog in a stroller, don’t bring it with you! Leave the thing at home.
I will never understand the dog in a stroller thing and will always believe that strollers are meant for cute little babies who can’t walk.

I so agree about the dogs in strollers…………absolutely ridiculous! What about the women that carry dogs in their purses???? Like they couldn’t get a babysitter and had to bring the dog to the store??? like they know???
I know! The Dogs in purses thing isn’t AS bad but is pretty bad. The worst is when those purse dogs go on a plane ride with their owner and yelp their high pitched bark the ENTIRE flight! It has happened to me before and the owner thinks there is nothing wrong at all! It boggles my mind! I don’t get it!! Glad someone else understands!!
I agree!!! The wosrt is when you go out to a restaurant where you can sit outside and you have to next to a dog in stroller. Dont those poeple know that is grossss!!! I perfer not eat my food with dog hair in it. I thought most esablishments dont allow pets.
Dude…what people do is their own business. I’m sure you all do things that pisses off other people, and you do it because you either like it, or you just want to.
What’s the big deal? Strollers were not “meant fore cute little babies”. So what you’re saying is if the baby is butt ugly it cannot be in a stroller? They’re meant for whatever you want to put into it. Want to put a watermelon in it? Go right ahead. If you use your money to buy something, you can use it for whatever you want so long as it doesn’t break the law.
Maybe the dog is only allowed in the mall if it is in the purse or in a stroller so that it’s not walking around scaring people.
What about people who cannot have babies, and this is the closest thing to a baby for them?
What about dogs that cannot walk due to broken legs? I’ve seen dogs at the beach being pushed around in a wheel barrel because it’s legs don’t work.
Think whatever you like, but I think dogs in strollers are cute and I just may go try it myself this week.
@Natasha-
I always thought most places didn’t allow pets either, but apparently it’s like having a baby with you. It is the most ridiculous thing! It’s like, hmmm…what if I wanted to bring a big black lab to the mall with me? Would that be appropriate to walk around in a stroller? HA no!
@Dorreen
Really? Really? A watermelon? Come on, look what you are comparing this to! You sound absolutely ridiculous. Yeah, if a baby is ugly, a stroller is meant for them too, but what babies are ugly?
“What’s the big deal?” The big deal is that it is the most absurd thing to push a dog around in a stroller. I am not referring to wounded dogs, that had nothing to do with my post whatsoever. And I am sorry for those people who can not have babies but a dog in a stroller is NOT going to fill that need. Come on now, read what you wrote and how ridiculous you sound. Why don’t you go buy a watermelon and put it in a stroller and walk around. Why not? If you spend your money on it, then you can do whatever you want.
And by the way, this is a blog, my opinion, so I will write whatever I want. Just like you will do whatever you want with your item you buy even if it is a stroller and a watermelon to fill your needs. HA why don’t you give that a shot Dorreen!
Way to go Roxy towards Doreen! Let me see……..Doreen, you are about aprroaching 40, single and know you are never going to have a baby so a dog in a stroller is your thing….ok!
Wow Dorreen, looks like you’ve made your mark on For Ladies By Ladies. I can’t wait to see your response! Is that true what Bonnie said? Sure hope not… for your sake. Keep up the good ideas Dorreen…. you get a watermelon yet? How’s that working out for ya because I think they’re out of season…
I agree. I can’t stand those stupid dog strollers. I was once in the mall with my girlfriend. We were in a rush and trying to get shopping done quickly. Well, as we walked into Express, my friend almost walked into a stroller. She turned to the woman and said “oops, i almost walked into your ba……. dog!” We had quite a laugh. The best part about the stroller is that is was enclosed, like a little cage. Actually, the best part is when we checked out, dog stroller lady was next to us and we realized that there were two dogs in there….. chiuauas. Haha
I was thinking about starting my own dog stroller business but instead I am going to use shopping carts and decorate them. Could you imagine walking in the mall and seeing someone pushing their rottweiler in a shopping cart? That would be funny!
I could fit a lot of watermelons in a shopping cart.
OMG a rottweiler in a shopping cart would probably make me fall on the floor laughing! I can’t believe your story about your friend, I feel like that has happened to me many times! They are like caged in there together. Hahaha watermelons in a shopping cart is better than a watermelon in a stroller, I like that.
Actually, I’m 30, with 2 kids and 2 beautiful dogs. I still feel that if you buy an item and you want to use it for whatever purpose you want that isn’t illegal, you can go right ahead and do it. Speaking of watermelons, yes I have done that before. It is heavy for me. Instead of lugging it around in my arms, it sat in my stroller. Did people laugh? Hell no. Mothers were telling me how they thought it was smart and that they’d do the same thing next time.
True, it’s your blog and you can write your opinion, as I write mine. At the end of the day, I didn’t attack anyone or made any assumptions about someone’s age or life situations such as this Bonnie girl. Very immature.
If that’s the only response you are able to think of, well then that’s quite …. brilliant.
Tell me you have never seen people pushing their child in a shopping cart? Not in the seat meant for children, but the part meant for groceries. People do it all the time…but it’s meant for groceries…how strange huh?
Tell me you have never seen people swinging on a tire swing. But tires are meant for trucks and trees aren’t meant for swings to be attached to them. Hrm…strange also.
Tell me you have never seen people dress up their babies in cutesy animal costumes with bunny ears and paws when it wasn’t Halloween. But “costumes” are for Halloween. Those parents must be mental.
Tell me you’ve never seen a man carrying a shoulder bag. That’s weird too, cuz shoulder bags are for ladies.
I still stand by my point, as do all of you. A stroller has wheels that can be pushed and you can use it for whatever purpose you like. Be it a dog, two dogs, or a cat. You bought it, do whatever the heck you want with it.
Dorreen- How about we call it a truce? Lets just agree to disagree. I am sorry if you were offended in anyway.
Hey……….I agree with Roxy…..let’s all agree to disagree. Doreen you sure have spirit and that is a good thing!
Ladies, I am not offended. I just like spreading my “love”
Truce indeed…and apologies if I came off a bit strong too.
Anyway, my rant is over…but believe it or not, someone sent me an email not too long after this, on a totally unrelated note.
The email contained pictures of bad parenting. What did you think was in one of the pictures?
A stroller. With a watermelon in it…along with many other things and the child jammed in there also…
OMG that is SO random!!! Pretty funny though, glad you weren’t offended.
If you have a dog and want to put said dog in a stroller or a purse and walk around with it thats fine. In fact it gives me something to laugh at. The only problem I have with dogs in strollers and purses, is some people feel this gives them the right to take their dogs anywhere dogs should never be. Even if there is a sign saying “no dogs allowed” for some this rule doesn’t apply to them if their dog is in a purse. The other day I was at a movie theater and someones dog started barking during the movie. Why on earth was your dog at the movie theater, on an airplane, or at a resturant, whats next dogs at the ER? Dogs aren’t allowed in certain places for many reasons mostly because a lot of dogs aren’t well behaved and their owners can not be relied upon to make that judgement call.
I totally agree. I hate when they think it’s okay to bring their dogs ANYWHERE they go! What if we all bought great danes or labs around with us everywhere. We would get thrown out of places, but I guess that when you wear your dog as an accessory your mind thinks differently.
I can’t believe someone brought their dog to a movie. I mean that is just ridiculous. I had a women in front of me on an airplane and the dog didn’t stop barking and screeching and she didn’t do anything about it and said she couldn’t make it stop. I got heated ad told her to shut it up or even lock it in the bathroom. I know that is cruel but she should of gone in there with the dog for the rest of the flight, SO INCONSIDERATE!
I MUST SAY I AM GRATEFUL FOR DOG STROLLERS!!!!
I HAVE A 11 YR OLD PUG WHO IS GETTING TO BE AN OLD MAN… I ENJOY TAKING HIM TO THE PARK TO GET HIS EXCERCISE BUT, HE GETS WORN OUT RATHER QUICKLY… I BOUGHT HIM A STROLLER AND NOW WHENEVER HE GETS TOO TIRED..HE GETS TO STROLL…=) WHILE MOMMY STILL GETS HER EXCERCISE!!
SOOOOO, THEY’RE NOT JUST FOR LOOKS PPL….THEY DO SERVE A PURPOSE!!
@GoHeels- You know what… I never thought about that, and I totally think it is acceptable for a reason such as yours. The ones who piss me off are the ones who are clearly new puppies and are accessories to people. I can understand you using a stroller for your 11 year old pug!!
What you wrote in here is just showing that you don’t like dogs (or other pets). To some people, dogs (and other pets) are part of the family so, of course, they would bring their dogs everywhere if they could. If you’re allergic to dogs and you don’t want to sit next to someone who brings dog, then ask the server to give you another place. When you’re dining in a “pet friendly” restaurant that means you’re taking your own risk to be seated next to somebody who brings pet. Likewise, when you’re going to other public places (malls, etc.) that are “pet friendly” that means you’re taking your own risk to walk with people who brings pet. It’s up to them how they want to bring their dogs (in stroller, in a purse, on a leash, whatever). It’s not your duty to tell the world that strollers are ONLY for babies. If you’re pissed off by people who push their dogs around in strollers, then DON’T GO OUT; just stay at home so you won’t see them.
Hmmm… actually I am a huge animal lover and dogs happen to be my favorite animal. I just personally think that someone pushing a dog in a stroller is just absurd. That is all…
I used to find dogs in strollers ridiculous too but I just rescued a puppy recently and I think it would be a fine alternative to having her cooped up in the house for three months-the amount of time it takes for her to be fully vaccinated and safe from deadly doggie diseases that could be lurking in grass and on sidewalks.
Also here in CA the heat can get scorchy and the concrete is very hot so I would also consider using the stroller on outings when the weather is like that.
Besides all the usefulness of a dog stroller, some people such as myself adore our canine companions and enjoy adorning them as we would any other living being under our care and I think the strollers are actually ingenious! Maybe you ladies have yet to have a puppy of your own so are unable to understand the love we have for our pooches. I have left my pup at home on many occasions but I have actually found myself missing her and wanting to get back home to get back to her!!! Don’t be so hard on us! I was on the verge of a serious depression before I got my puppy. She is better than Prozac, Zoloft, AND Abilify and she will be in tow WHEREVER I go, as long as the establishments permit it. The ones that won’t have us TOGETHER (her in the stroller chillin’) will just miss out on my patronage, and that’s that. If anyone expresses disdain or has allergies I would respect that and give them their space.
Don’t have ya’ll panties in such a bunch girls! If any of you see me and mine on the walk you’re gonna be green with envy!!!! Get yours! Mwah ah ah ah aaaaah!!!!
Wow Jane. Glad you rescued a dog but I’m thinking the pharmaceuticals that you listed would actually be a great help to you. Take care of yourself.
So i was thinking about getting a stroller for my puppies. I always thought people who carries dogs in bags was weird, but now i hear about the strollers. Totally weird. But then, I am a person on the rode to starting a life time job, and I was lonely. So I got myself two little dogs. Both are under 6 pounds. Easy to feed and easy to control. The littlest one, three and half pounds, has a spine deformability, which no one can see until he walks, so people ask why I carry him and walk the other. Allie is six pounds and she is just perfectly fine.
But, when I realized that I couldn’t take them on long walks or hiking, it made me disappointed that they couldn’t make the trip, especially when I go on a hike every weekend. Also, with Dallas’ spine, he walks side ways on a slant, rather then straight. So, this said, it is hard to walk and control what direction he is going.
Also, with two dogs that have a mind of their own, I wish there was a way I could control both of them and not look like an idiot juggling them in my arms. So, I would like people’s opinion if I should get a stroller to accommodate little Dallas and my exercise activities, or just be like everyone else and think strollers are for mindless celebrities and want-to-bes.
So a device that helps really small or disabled dogs get out into the world and enjoy the short lives they have are “ridiculous” because they are not “cute babies”. FYI I have seen a LOT of ridiculous mothers bring gigantic pathetic strollers in horrible places hauling children who are perfectly capable of walking, disrupting everyone else with their entitlements.
And I would much rather sit next to a quiet sweet dog in a stroller at a restraint then your screaming, wailing, annoying child. Thank you.
You are all shallow vapid horrible people who feel just because you had sex that means animals and other humans don’t deserve happiness heaven forbid a device is used besides that for your special snow flake. This whole post gives parents a bad name and you should be ashamed of yourselves for being so cruel to innocent animals who deserve respect, dignity and a happy life as well.
If I had to chose between a dog being left in the car on a cold or hot day and a dog in a stroller, it’s the first that would infuriate me. It amazes me how selfish and desensitized people have become.
When we go on vacation, we take our 2 dogs with us. The last time we boarded them, they both got sick. When we go shopping we don’t feel comfortable leaving them in the hotel so we take them with us and use a stroller so they don’t bother anybody else. People that are complaining because it might slow them down, get real!!
If your in such a hurry and self centered, shop online. There’s people that bring their own shopping carts to the mall, do u want to ban those also because you might waste an extra minute at the mall. Before complaining, people should take a minute and reflect if its that much of a big deal and if it has a big impact on their lives. Enough with the pessimism and consider the pros and the cons. Complain about the poor dogs that are left in a cold or hot car, that’s cruelty and worth complaining about.
Most stores DON’T ALLOW PETS, but they’re okay with dogs in a stroller. That’s probably why you see dogs in a stroller. As a pet owner, I’d love to walk with my pet, but it sucks that most places (besides pet stores) don’t allow them.
I have a dachshund who just had knee surgery. Can’t even put weight on it for 2 weeks, when only 5-10 minutes a day for 6 weeks. She is normally very active and was getting very depressed. My friend loaned me the stroller she got when her dogs were pups. Now I can go out walking while she rides. She is so much happier just to get out of the house and get fresh air. Depression gone, and now I can get exercise.
You have no idea what the circumstances are behind a person carrying a dog in a stroller. I used to think the same way. How ridiculous! but with small breeds it makes total sense. Small dogs get tired of walking. Instead of leaving it home, why not bring the stroller so you can do both?
Have you stopped to think that maybe some dogs have had surgery and can’t walk but still want to enjoy what life has to offer? maybe a dog has arthtiris and still loves being outside but can’t walk too much. SO STFU and complain about the attention whores who can’t cover thtier tis and ass when they go out and stop focusing on why people try to make their dogs comfortable. If you see a fat huge dog in a stroller then MAYBE there’s a grain of reason to yuor ridiculous complaint.
i have a 5 month old puppy that gets tired and hates being left alone if she gets scared she curls up in my lap i just bought an umbrella stroller from a thift store for ten dollars i am going to do some work on it to tranform it into a dog stroller AND SERVICE DOGS ARE ALLOWED EVERYWHERE EVEN WHEN THERE IS A NO DOGS ALLOWED SIGN
