Hair can go very wrong when you’re primping for a party under pressure.  Especially when you are running low on time, the worst is messing with your hair and having it not cooperate!  Here are some tips to help you out for when you are getting ready for a holiday party, especially New Years Eve.  It can be so stressful.  So take a deep breathe, and read on.

1. Curly Sue Curls

Spiral curls that are not loose are not flattering on ANYONE.  Do not get curls done and leave them be.  If you go to the salon and have them done professionally make sure that the stylist flips your head over and shoots you with cold air from the hair dryer and sprays shine spray and hair spray.  That way you won’t look like Little Bo Peep.

2. Milkmaid braids

If you look like a Swedish doll, you have the look ALL wrong.  Let the braids be messy.  I love braids but to have them look perfectly done is just not flattering.

3. Tendrils

Ugh, tendrils left out on purpose, ugh!  Do not curl them!  If you have pieces out from your style that is polished, it will look terrible.  If you have a messy style done and some pieces out, you have it right.

4. Helmet head

Beware of the helmet head.  Make sure you’re not holding your hairspray too close and causing it to become super stiff and immobile.  Hairspray should be used for flexible hold.  My favorite hairspray is Hardhead by Beadhead.  There is no flaking and you will definitely NOT have helmet head!

5. Too much teasing

Yes, some height can be cute.  Not when its more than an inch or so.  Try just teasing in your crown area if you’re wearing your hair down.  If you are wearing it up, tease around the hairline and pull it back off your face.

6. Cheesy Half Up Do

Most of the time when you don’t want to do the full up do or the hair down you try in between.  Well, most of the time it is top heavy.  Just be careful you don’t look like a cheeseball.

7. Decorating your hair like a Christmas tree with ornaments

If you’re wearing a headband, cool.  If you’re wearing a headband and a clip, that’s a no no.  One accessory in your hair at a time.  Your hair is not a Christmas tree!

8. Stick straight hair

Straight hair can be beautiful but not when its flat to your head.  You need some movement in there.  Before styling your hair use a root lifter, I like Root Boost by Catwalk, and a volumizing blow drying lotion, Superstar by Bedhead is great.  Only use the flat iron on your ends!

9. Slicked back updo

Don’t give yourself an instant eye lift with a slicked back updo.  Too tight is not good.  Let it look relaxed and flowy.

10. Greasy bangs

I know bangs don’t cooperate all the time.  Do not spray hairspray or any kind of oil in them.  They are the first part of your hair to get greasy.  If you have a problem bring bobbi pins and do a twist or a braid to keep them off your face.
