New Years Day is pretty much National Hangover Day.  Sadly, I can actually say that for the last 5 years + I have been mega hungover on New Years Day.  We all have our own remedies for curing hangovers, but this is a serious day and we need more help than just our own remedies.  We all know that drinking water in between drinks, and eating a big meal before we go out doesn’t work.  Maybe some of these hangover cures will help you in your day of need!

When you wake up with a massive headache and feel like death, you know you’ve done it.  You know you are hungover and there is no going back now.  Even the thought of a jagerbomb will make you puke on demand.  No matter what you do, sleep and water or juice MUST be included. There are lots of different things that are supposed to help cure a hangover. Many of them will help you cope by replenishing the vitamins and liquids you lost over night.

For a quicker recovery, do not drink coffee, that almost always makes me gag when I’m hungover!  While there is no one size fits all cure, I’m sure one of these or a mixture of these will help you out.

1. Sleep it off.  Sleep is your best friend today, you need to let your body recover from the torture you put it through last night!

2. Drink fruit juice and water.  Gatorade, Powerade, and Smartwater are all great choices.  They all have added electrolytes which you lose when you’re dehydrated.  I’ve had Pedialyte before when I was hungover.  It definitely helps, if you can handle the taste.

3. Stay away from caffeine.  Caffeine dehydrates you… not what you need right now!

4. Drink a Bloody Mary.  While your blood is dealing with this new alcohol, it is ignoring the old and in the mean time the tomato juice and celery are full of vitamins that your body is lacking.

5. Take a shower and switch between hot and cold water.

6. Lots of people say Alka Seltzer Morning Relief works within 15 minutes.  It is definitely worth a try, right?

7. Have sex… it releases oxytocin, which increases your pain threshold.  As long as your beer goggles are off, and the person next to you is your boyfriend, fiance, or husband…go for it, why not?

8. Eat a banana.  It contains a natural antacid to fight the nausea as well as magnesium to relax blood vessels and ease your headache.   If you have honey around, put some on the banana.  The fructose will speed up the process of your body metabolizing the alcohol.

The only thing proven to cure a hangover?  Time… don’t hate me… time is the only thing that is proven.  Some of these remedies may relieve some of your pain and discomfort but it’s all about time.

My personal hangover cure:

1. Wake ‘n bake

2. Take a cocktail of 2 Advil and a Xanax immediately

3. Get Burger King Breakfast… egg and cheese croissant and hashbrowns with lots of ketchup and a regular coke.  If you wake up too late for breakfast go to Mc Donald’s and get a kid’s cheeseburger meal with lots of ketchup and a regular coke.  They both work just as good as the other ;)

4. Take a shower

5. Put on the comfiest pajamas and blast the fan and get into bed and try to sleep it off!

Smoking a fat joint is pretty much the best way to get rid of a hangover. You’ll go from feeling like crap to very comfortable in just minutes…
