What To Eat & Drink At A Holiday Party

It is so hard to go to a party and not eat all the yummy, yet fattening appetizers.  You should always eat before you go as long as it’s not a sit down dinner.  If it’s a sit down dinner and you don’t eat, that’s just rude.  If you eat before a cocktail party that is just serving drinks and finger foods you won’t arrive with an empty stomach wanting to eat anything and everything.  You should also always carry a clutch bag, this way one hand is being used at all times making it more difficult for you to shovel food into your mouth.

When you get to the party don’t head right over to the food.  Grab a cocktail and mingle first.  Make sure you get a glass of wine or a low calorie mixed drink.  I like to grab a glass of red wine and then put some cold club soda in it.  It gives it a little bit of bubbly and it seems like I am drinking more.  Or have a vodka and soda with a lime, or cherry vodka and diet coke (tastes just like cherry coke).  Skip the fruit juices, as they can add on hundreds of unwanted calories.

When you do decide to go for the food, take a look at everything first so you know what you’re getting yourself into.  You know what the healthy choices are, come on, don’t say you don’t know.  Aim for 500-600 calories, a normal person’s meal, and you should be fine.  If there are large plates and small plates, grab a small plate and fill it up with healthy choices.  There are almost always veggies and lean protein such as turkey and chicken for appetizers.  You can also allow yourself to have one small plate for snacks or desserts.

You’re not going to the party to eat, remember that!  You can also think of Kate Moss’s motto, “Nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels”.  Come on, we all know we have said it to ourselves before.  Don’t hate on Kate!
