A man was killed in Central Park by a Snow covered tree branch falling and hitting him in the head.  The law should recognize this as an act of God just like if someone were to be struck by lightening.

A 56-year-old man was killed in Central Park when a snow-sodden tree limb fell on him just before 3:30 p.m. Thursday, the authorities said.

A witness who walked by as the man lay bleeding said that the branch, which came to rest beside his head, looked like it must have weighed 100 pounds. The American elm tree it fell from, the witness said, was massive, perhaps 80 feet high, and was bowed beneath the weight of several inches of wet snow.

“It was obviously a direct hit to his head,” said the witness, a man who lives on the Upper West Side but would not give his name. “There was this big pool of blood spreading through the snow. It was horrifying.”

Supposedly a lot of people called 911 but no one offered CPR to the man because he appeard to be dead already.  This is such a sad story. Who expects to be walking around Central Park and have a tree limb fall on you and kill you? No one… it is a freak accident.

I could say that I feel lucky living in Florida because something like this wouldn’t happen here, but at the same time we have hurricane season and have to deal with power outages and tornadoes and trees coming out of their roots and flying around.  We also have to deal with old people driving who don’t deserve to have a license.  What is more risky?  I think living in Florida is a little riskier than walking around Central Park, what do you think?
