Alice Really Let Me Down

I saw Alice In Wonderland last night and it wasn’t what I had expected or hoped for. I thought that I was going to be taken to this magical place where flowers talk, and so do animals. I was also expecting colors and beautiful things to look at like in Avatar. I didn’t get any of these things the way I wanted. The animals that did talk, weren’t that cool, and the flowers that talked barely had any screen time.
The classic Alice in Wonderland Disney cartoon has many fans which consist of children, adults that are children at heart, and of course, stoners. This version of the film does not, and will never compare to the Disney cartoon version. Mia Wasikowska was nice to watch as Alice, I think this is going to get her some more roles because her acting was great, just not the movie.
I liked how Tim Burton made it so Alice went back to Wonderland after having gone as a child and thinking it was all just a big dream. When she went the first time it was colorful and full of life, then when she went back at 19, it had turned into a very dark place due to the Red Queen.

The Red Queen, played very well by Helena Bonham Carter, was ridiculous looking, with her bulbous head, but so unnecessary. Was there really a reason that her head had to be that disproportionate?
The best part of the movie was when Alice fell down the rabbit’s whole. I thought that was the best special effects of the movie and the most captivating.
The best character in the movie, by far, was the hare. He was a goof, just like in the Disney cartoon version, but even better. Definitely made me laugh every time he was shown. The Cheshire cat is in second place for me. He ruled, as he always has. A disappearing cat… that is awesome and will always be awesome.
I was really expecting a much more trippy and twisted plot. This movie made sense of all the characters and their roles and I feel like that is so completely opposite of how Lewis Caroll would of wanted it. His Wonderland wasn’t supposed to make any sense.

Johnny Depp happened to be excellent at playing the Mad Hatter, he would go mad and his eyes would turn red. Nothing seriously bad ever really happened though. The White Queen, played by Anne Hathaway, was irritating. She had both hands up while talking and never once put them down. I thought she was a useless character in this version of the story.
The caterpillar was a HUGE let down. He wasn’t cool at all and not even close to as big as I remember him being when I was younger. I really expected this to take me back into my days of adolescence but this did not fulfill my expectations. Tim Burton could of gone a lot creepier with the story, and I feel like the hatter could of been darker.
I am glad I saw the movie for myself, but the 3-D parts were SO not a big deal, I feel like it was a waste even being in 3-D. That was a big let down to me. I think the trailer was misleading and was better than the movie actually was. You decide for yourself. Was this a let down for anyone else? This makes me want to go watch the Disney cartoon version right now to get this version out of my head.

oh boohoo, grow up! this alice in wonderland is 10000000000000 times better than the cartoon one, this one actually had a story, a plot, something to be interested about while the first one was just alice walking around wonderland, meeting one character after another BORING no plot no story line, no adventure, nothing fasinating, how old are you? if youre a little kid then im sorry bout this comment because i’d understand why naive little kids wouldnt understand the deep meaning in this story, but if youre an adult, well, god help you buddy!
god help me? Sorry paulina, but I am not the only person who was disappointed in this movie. I disliked it greatly, and if you look online at other reviews, a lot of other people didn’t like it either. I am allowed to have my own opinion about a film as are you, but don’t tell me to grow up. And by the way, I am 26. AND fascinating is spelled with a c, dummy.
I disagree with you actually. I do respect your opinion but I actually enjoyed this movie. I also like the previous versions, but not as much as this one. The Mad Hatter was brilliant and didn’t need to be any darker in character. Alice could of been played by someone softer ( personality ). Oh, and by the way, don’t call other people dummies. Proves you’re just a bully, doesn’t it?
