Would You Sell Your Body To Achieve Your Dream?

On Melrose Place last night, Lauren Yung (Stephanie Jacobsen), finally confessed to her friends that she has been a prostitute for the past few months to make money to pay for medical school which she was really behind on.
Dr. Mancini (Thomas Calabro), Lauren’s boss at the hospital, ordered a hooker from the service Lauren was working for, and she showed up. After that she had to choose between her career or pretty much nothing. He threatened her that he would ruin her medical career if she didn’t break his son’s heart. Lauren broke up with David (Shaun Sipos) and thought that would be the end of it. But that wasn’t enough for scumbag Dr. Mancini. He wanted to get his money’s worth and bang Lauren. Finally she realized that it wasn’t worth it and came clean to her friends before Dr. Mancini did.
I cried, seriously, it was SO sad!  I can’t relate whatsoever but at the same time, I could see her reasoning for selling her body. She wants to be a doctor more than anything and if selling her body was going to get her there, she was going to do anything it takes. She betrayed her boyfriend David, who is my future husband by the way, and after coming clean, he was not having it. I feel so bad for Lauren, and I love David. I want him to forgive her, considering she stopped after she started dating him, other than the dude that drugged her and David’s dad, Dr. Mancini.
Would you sell your body to achieve your dream? I don’t think I’d ever be put in that situation, at least I hope not. I would never, but you never know what people will do to get what they want.
Oh, and by the way, I couldn’t be happier that Ashlee Simpson is off the show! Who’s with me on that one??

“…I could see her reasoning for selling her body. She wants to be a doctor more than anything and if selling her body was going to get her there, she was going to do anything it takes…”

so now i guess we should all applause prostitution…clearly it should be as the new work force for struggling women.

quick question: are there male students in med school struggling with debt. i’m pretty sure they aren’t going to join a male escort service…at least they are not expected to.

it kills me when women demand to be equal and want respect but get so desperate they are willing to do anything even it degrades them. no wonder they are still not equal to men and will never be. men don’t use their bodies to make it to the top…they make it based on merit. now women…use what stereotypically they are only good for…their bodies.

I understand where you are coming from, but at the same time, don’t you think there is a double standard there? Men think “sex, sex, sex”, and women actually think about other things. Yeah it is terrible to sell your body but at the same time if it is the only way you are going to achieve your dream, then well… I kinda understand…

@katkwill, “generally” speaking, women resort to selling their bodies and men resort to stealing.

I for one, will never stoop that low. It was a decision she made and now she has to pay for the consequences. At least she had learned her mistake.
