While many people experience dry skin in the winter time as the humidity lowers, it’s also very common for people to have dry skin in the summertime as well. Luckily, there are a lot of things you can do to combat this dry skin, regardless of what you might be doing during your long summer days.

Don’t Forget To Moisturize

One of the most important things that you can do to help your skin not to dry out too much in the summer is to moisturize on a regular basis.

From being outside in the sun to swimming in pools and just sweating from the heat, it’s easy for your body and your skin to lose much needed moisture. And when this happens, your skin can become dry, flaky, and irritated. So to keep this from happening to you, make sure you have a moisturizer that can help to bring moisture back into your skin and keep it there for an extended period of time. 

Ideally, you should be applying moisturizer to your skin right after you’ve washed. This can help to trap in the moisture that your skin has just absorbed from the water. This is also a good practice if you or someone you know has chronically dry skin, like a baby or an elderly loved one in an assisted living facility

Protect Your Skin From The Sun

As was mentioned above, being out in the sun can severely dry out your skin. But if you’re wanting to enjoy the nice weather where you live, you’re likely going to want to be out in the sun at least sometimes.

For the days when you plan to be outside, the best thing you can do for your skin is to protect it from the harsh rays of the sun. For best results, try to cover your skin with light layers of clothes or hats that can help you stay in the shade. You should also apply sunscreen to all of your skin, including your lips, to help avoid sunburn and bring added moisture to each of these areas. 

Try To Keep Your Showers Short

While it’s good to moisturize your skin after you’ve been in the water, you should try to avoid showering or being in the water too much if you’re worried about dry skin, as taking too many showers, especially hot showers, can serve to dry your skin out even more.

To avoid this, it’s best to keep your showers short and on the cooler side. Not only will this help to keep your skin from overdrying, but it can also help to keep you cooler when spending time in the summer heat.
